A three-member delegation of The Haj Committee of India (HCOI) will sign an agreement with the Government of Saudi Arabia to set up a long-term accommodation in the holy city of Makkah for giving proper facilities to Indian pilgrims during Haj Pilgrimage. This delegation is led by A. Aboobucker, vice president of HCOI.They left for Makkah from Chennai on Saturday to sign the agreement. Other members of the delegation are S. Shakir Hussain, Chief Executive Officer of the HCOI.
This agreement will give HCOI the right to take up spacious premises for 99-year-long lease .At present the HCOI accommodated the Indian pilgrims in the buildings temporarily hired for a period of 40 days during Haj, every year.
Through this agreement HCOI will be able to provide assured accommodation with better facilities for the pilgrims.
Besides, HCOI would also take up the issue with the Saudi Arabian authorities on increasing the quota of Haj pilgrims from India for Haj 2013 .In 2012 about 1.25 lakh Haj Pilgrims performed pilgrimage.
