Indian Haj Quota to 2 Lakh – Boon For Applicants in Waiting List

Politically there may be discourse going on, related to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vist to Saudi Arabia and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman  visit to India this year , however, there visit has opened a new chapter in the relationship between both the countries . It was Modi’s visit which gave the  biggest expansion of Haj quota in last 29 years ,  from 1.36 lakh to 1.70 lakh previous year and Saudi prince visit has given it new turn by increasing Haj total quota for  India to 2 lakh .

The decision to increase India’s Haj quota was taken during a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Mod and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at Hyderabad House in New Delhi in the last week of February.

The Saudi authorities had seven years ago slashed quotas for foreign pilgrims coming from each country by 20 per cent in view of safety of the devotees as they undertook expansion of Grand Mosque there. Accordingly, India’s quota was brought down to 1.36 lakh.

Earlier this year , Minister of Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi had made the request to Saudi Arabia to increase the Haj quota by 20,000. This request was made in Jeddah while signing Haj 2019 deal with the Kingdom’s Haj ministry.

This year about 3 lakh Haj aspirants have applied , so after qurrah process , there are good number of Haj applicants in the waiting list. From the given quota by Saudi Arabia , 30 % quota would be distributed to private Haj operators and for the rest seats , applicants from the waiting list would be given preference .

We have already received many enquirers related to waiting list and now all are eager to know the date for the waiting list release. There is not yet any official announcement on HCOI website or any upload related to waiting list . Do hope that it would be updated soon and good news would be forwarded to all the selected waiting list for Haj 2019. After this increase of Haj Quota , India Haj Quota is more than the Haj Quota of Pakistan.
